Body Shape Calculator
Measure over light clothing with a soft tape held level. Three numbers are enough to see how your shoulders, waist and hips relate — which is all a "body shape" really describes.

How this is worked out
We convert to inches and compare the differences between bust, waist and hips, following the FFIT for Apparel method used in clothing research. Hourglass: bust and hips within about an inch, with a waist 9–10 inches smaller. Hourglass variants: one of bust or hips is fuller but the waist is still well defined. Pear: hips at least 3.6 inches wider than bust. Inverted triangle: bust at least 3.6 inches wider than hips. Apple: a waist within a couple of inches of the bust. Rectangle: everything fairly even.
Questions people ask
Is one body shape better than another?
No. The label is only a shortcut for choosing cuts: it tells you where a garment needs room and where it can be fitted. Most people sit between two shapes.
Why do I get a different answer from another calculator?
Calculators use different cut-offs, and some also use a high-hip measurement. If you are close to a boundary, read the advice for both shapes.
