How this is worked out

Mifflin–St Jeor: BMR = 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age + 5 (men) or − 161 (women). TDEE = BMR × activity factor (1.2 to 1.9). Targets: a 500 kcal daily deficit is roughly 0.45 kg a week; we never suggest going below 1,200 kcal (women) or 1,500 kcal (men) without medical supervision.

Questions people ask

How accurate is this?

Mifflin–St Jeor is within about 10% for most people. Track your weight for three weeks and adjust by 100–200 kcal if it is not moving as expected.
