How this is worked out
Women's: UK and Indian ready-to-wear sizes run UK 8 = US 4 = EU 36 = IT 40 = JP 9, stepping by one size each way. Men's tops are sized by chest in inches: UK/US/India use the chest number (38, 40…), EU adds 10 (48, 50…). Body measurements are typical, not a standard — always check the brand's own chart.

Why does my size change between brands?
There is no binding international standard for ready-to-wear. Brands grade their own patterns, and "vanity sizing" has drifted many labels down a size over the years.
Are Indian sizes the same as UK sizes?
Most Indian brands follow UK numbering for women (8, 10, 12…) and chest inches for men (38, 40, 42…), with letter sizes alongside. Ethnic wear often has its own chart.
